My debut artwork in the NFT sphere. 1 of 1.
ABOUT THE ARTWORK: Making top 10 photographs in the international competition for emerging photographers by The Independent Photographer Magazine, was artwork years in the making. As a physical piece for my print collectors, this is a popular print. Usually hung as a feature piece at 24x36", this is a piece of art that draws viewers in because of its "impossibility". I chose this as my very first NFT because it often surprises viewers to learn that it is a simple photograph, no digital additions or modifications. All that was used during processing is some standard lightroom colour and shade work.
HOW IT WAS CREATED It took almost 24hrs of waiting on this hillside in the cold to create this. This is a famous location, called Morant’s Curve. The effort was not in post production, but in months of planning and technique. The trains were spontaneous and difficult to catch without a regular schedule. I had to wait and keep warm in the car, listening for rumble of the trains in the distance, waiting for the right direction, right visibility, right cloud cover, right sun position, right train length, and right cart colours to get this perfectly.
When I finally got the shot, I was overwhelmed with joy, filling me with that rare rush and exhilaration of a perfect shot that true photographers know all too well. Years of waiting, months of planning, and hours of waiting finally paid off. Of all the hundreds of thousands of photos I’ve taken, dozens of countries, countless lonely and cold mornings with my camera, this may have been my most proud moment as a photographer. So grateful.
